Who am I and what am I doing?
It’s a question I sometimes find myself asking when I can’t get my brain engaged!
When I’m ill or tired, it’s hard to find the wherewithal to be creative. I found myself in that state the other day, asking myself, “How do I write something worthwhile that will be of value to my readers when I’m not feeling in the mood?”
Somehow, I came across this solution because I found myself bizarrely actually hunting in my cupboards for the answer - don’t ask me why…
I found a game called, “Who Am I and What am I Doing?”
Fecking perfect!
It’s a game where you have two sets of cards - one lot says “Who Am I?” and others say “What am I Doing?”
For example, (and I’m picking these cards live at random right now):
I’m given a choice of either David Attenborough or Ozzy Osborne
And I’m either Making Breakfast or Protesting
These prompts are designed to be a charades-like game where you act out the scene and people guess who your character is and what you’re trying to do.
But it really makes you think - I don’t really care about the breakfast stuff, but watching Ozzy Osborne protesting would be an entirely different experience to watching David Attenborough protesting, and that’s interesting.
Who would you rather emulate? Who do you feel would get better results, bearing in mind they’d both make an impact but for very different reasons.
Or how about this:
You have the choice of being Kermit the Frog or Kim Kardashian
And you’re either At the Supermarket or In Prison
Must admit, I’d rather be Kermit in both these situations, and it makes you realise that although you might not want to change places with anyone else in the world, there are some qualities and characteristics you aspire to more than others.
When you set goals for yourself, rather than focus on what actions you need to take, a more interesting question to ask yourself is “What sort of person do I need to become in order to reach this goal?”
Do you need to be more Elvis Presley or Snoop Dog.
More Bart Simpson or Scooby Doo?
More Mary Poppins or Hannibal Lecter?
Who are you, and what the hell are you doing?
