Oh the joys of living with ADHD!
On Sunday, I did my usual morning routine of putting supplement pills for Kev and me on the kitchen island next to our coffee.
I took mine in the usual way as I mused over my weekly journal review.
A few minutes later, Kev came into the kitchen and said “Have you put the pills out today?”
I looked at the island.
The pills were gone.
Now, there is a possibility that I didn’t put Kev’s out in the first place, but that’s unlikely because my habit is to deal out two portions, and I’ve been doing that so long it’s an automatic action for me.
It’s more likely I’d necked both lots of pills in my distracted state - heavily engrossed in thinking about journalling.
DOH!
Luckily no harm done - there was nothing dangerous about the taking two doses of those particular supplements, but it made me realise I need to change what I do to avoid it happening in the future, so I now have a little reusable Post It with “Kev’s Pills” written on it that I put them on every day.
It’s only a small thing but it’s yet another way to take unnecessary load off my working memory.
I treat my life like a top sports person would look at improving their performance with marginal gains, and although you might not have issues like extreme distractibility to deal with, there could be other areas of your life you could make small tweaks to get the best out of yourself.
It must just be a little improvement to your daily routine that could make a big difference over the long term…
