I’ve made a new verb for myself:
‘Switzerlizing’.
I know it’s very American to add a ‘z’ rather than an ‘s’, but it looks more pleasing in this case, and it’s MY new verb, so BACK OFF language police!
Anyway…what is Switzerlizing?
Whilst I was playing around in the beautiful scenery of the Swiss Alps on foot, boats, trains, cars, bikes, kayaks and scooters, I kept marvelling at how beautiful the country was.
Not just clean, but really well cared for - the streets were litter-free, the homes were adorned with cascading window boxes, there were no dog poo bags hanging on the fences, and I rarely saw anything in a state of disrepair.
I guess there might be a dodgy estate of chalets somewhere in the country with old sofas in the gardens and three-legged mountain goats picking through the bins, but everything I saw looked pretty close to immaculate.
It made me want to do some Switzerlizing at home.
The interior of my home isn’t too bad (apart from the cupboards which sometimes look like a conscientious burglar has visited and at least made an effort to put things back after finding nothing valuable), but the garden definitely requires some Switzerlization.
I came back from holiday to see hanging baskets with last year's zombie violets gently toasting on either side of my front door, and a giant, grumpy thistle inhabiting a pot which could be full of jolly geraniums, and I knew I could up my game significantly.
So, it’ll be one of the goals in my new journal that starts next month to beautify my outdoor environment.
Not every goal you set needs to be huge or difficult, it just needs to be something you know you’ll feel better for doing at the end of it.
