Why I no longer identify as Full TIme Ferret
I was recently asked by a client “How do you know if you’re going down a rabbit hole?”
When I talk about rabbit holes, I mean any activity or long train of thought that ultimately leads you off your path.
Don’t get me wrong - I enjoy a good rabbit hole.
In fact, I enjoy them so much I’ve had to train myself to stay out of them, and I book solitary time for myself to retreat about once a month, where I head to my annexe for two days of uninterrupted thinking where I have the luxury of rabbit-holing to my heart's content.
Believe me, I'm like a greased ferret when I get going!
I find the creative space is really good for me, and I often emerge with some great ideas.
However, I have noticed it’s not good for me to function on this level all the time.
If I spend too much time in Full Ferret Mode I become incredibly unproductive.
I’m either all thinking and no doing, or I sabotage a good plan by overwriting it with unstructured ferrety actions.
That’s why I’ve become hooked on the journaling process.
In the past, I haven’t used journaling effectively. I’ve written a few good goals at the beginning of a quarter and have lost sight of them by Week Three due to ferreting about where I really shouldn’t be sticking my nose.
Since discovering a more intensive, methodical journaling process (believe me - using those words together still strikes fear into my ferrety heart!) I have gained significantly more traction in both my personal and professional life.
Basically, I get more shit done.
And life still feels great - in fact it feels even better than Full TIme Ferreting because I’m actually getting somewhere rather than going around in circles.
When I get great ideas on retreat, I note them down and make a plan to act on them. I don’t immediately go burrowing off in a new direction.
And because I keep a focus on several areas of my life, I not only get more done at work, but I’m fitter and happier, too.
I make more time for fun and relaxation because I’m not beating myself up for being unproductive at work.
In our 90 Day Breakthrough, we take clients through the process we use every day for ourselves.
It’s not just a theoretical course, it’s a way of life.
You’ll know when you’re down a rabbit hole when you find yourself doing or planning something that isn’t aligned with what you created for yourself at the beginning of your journal.
You know what? Sometimes I find myself strongly resisting my own authority!
I resent Past Vicki for setting goals that feel hard to stick to.
It makes Current Vicki want to grease herself up and go rabbit-holing.
But bitter experience has taught me if I don’t stick to a plan, I don’t get results.
Simple As.
Our next 90 Day Breakthrough Programme doesn’t begin until October, but you can go on the waiting list now if Current You wants to make sure Future You finishes the year with a bang.
